Deleting browser history
Mozilla Firefox
Menu → "History" → "Clear recent history" → select "Everything".
Microsoft Edge / Internet Explorer
Menu → "Settings" → "Privacy, search and services" → "Clear browsing data". You can also set it to clear everything automatically on exit.
Google Chrome
Menu (three dots) → "More tools" → "Clear browsing data" → select "All time".
Safari
Menu "History" → "Clear History" → choose the time period.
Private browsing mode
Even better than clearing afterwards: use private mode from the start. It leaves no traces on the device.
- Chrome / Edge: Ctrl + Shift + N → "New Incognito Window"
- Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P → "New Private Window"
- Safari: File → "New Private Window"
Smartphone
Regularly check which apps are installed on your phone. Some stalking apps are hidden. If in doubt, have the device inspected at a specialist shop or by the police.
Location services
- Turn off GPS when not needed.
- Check which apps share your location — e.g. WhatsApp Live Location, Google Maps location sharing, iCloud Find My Friends.
- Disable automatic backups if someone might have access to your cloud account.
Passwords
- Change passwords for email, social media and cloud services.
- Use a different, strong password for every account.
- Enable two-factor authentication whenever possible.
- A password manager (such as Bitwarden) helps you keep track.
Send messages safely
Signal and WhatsApp encrypt messages end-to-end. For maximum security we recommend Signal, as less metadata is collected.
